Come explore what awakening means for each of us\, and how to access healing and growth through yoga\, the chakras\, meditation\, food\, and self-reflection!\n\nThis year we will focus on balancing our physical\, emotional\, and spiritual well-being through yoga postures\, dance\, music\, meditation\, and discussion. We will also explore the chakras\, which offer a bridge between our subconscious and conscious actions and thoughts\, allowing us to understand ourselves by opening our minds to our inner sources of inspiration\, personal power\, wholeness\, and transformation. It is a practical system for healing energy imbalances and taking control of our mental and physical health\, which is relevant to all of us today as we navigate to find meaning\, purpose\, and a connection with our shared humanity. \n \nEach retreat will include: \n\n\n4 yoga classes with Laurie VanCott\, Gorge Yoga \n\n\nA lecture on the chakras and understanding the self \n\n\nAn acupuncture group session \n\n\nAn evening sound bath \n\n\nAll meals are provided by Petra Knapp of Native Provisions. \nThere will also be time to relax\, renew\, and reflect by providing opportunities for connection and deep conversation\, journaling\, or walking the grounds of the Abbey. \n\n\n\n“The yoga retreat is magical. The setting is as beautiful and peaceful as the mind can imagine. This quiet space combined with the different experiences of the retreat allow you time to reflect\, to hear your inner voices that are often covered up by the noise of life. I left so much lighter\, with insights and tools to help me live my authentic life. and to be able to live more closely to the person I want to be. This experience is a true gift. Laurie is a true gift to our community. SUMMARY:Ullambana Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Yulanpen Sutra\, also known as the Ullambana Sutra\, is a Mahayana sutra concerning filial piety. (Historic story about a monk who saved his mother).  Join us for our regular Saturday morning service which will include a celebration of this story of compassion.   \nUllambana\, surprisingly\, has multiple stories about its origin. Based on the region where it is celebrated\, people have passed on varying stories about the day. The word ‘Ullambana’ itself is probably derived from the Indian Language of Sanskrit and was translated into Chinese to form ‘Ullambana.’ In India\, you would probably hear people say “Yulanpen Sutra\,” which is in more than one way similar to the Chinese Ullambana. \nThe story behind the day is interesting. The story is of a boy\, Sariputta\, who rescues his mother who is trapped in a life-cycle continuum. Legend has it that Petavatthu\, Sariputta’s mother\, is trapped in the fifth life cycle as a ghost\, unable to come back as a human. To help his mother\, Sariputta builds huts and fills them with food for the needy to eat from as a gesture of his sacrifice. The gods accept his sacrifice and his mother is freed. \nSee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulanpen_Sutra    \n  \nPhoto credit: By unknown artist(Life time: 19th century) – Original publication: not published Immediate source:http://academic.reed.edu/hellscrolls/scrolls/Aseries/A10/A10c.html\, PD-US\, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=44727949

SUMMARY:ONE DAY RETREAT – Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) and Metta practices\, May 2024
DESCRIPTION:Walking mediation in nature\nA Shinrin-Yoku forest bathing walk consists of a series of activities & sits\, designed to help the participants to bathe in the surroundings\, the environment and energy of the forest\, allowing them to slow down\, breathe\, and refocus on their body\, while connecting to their various senses. \nMore than just a nature walk\, the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku\, or Forest Bathing\, is good for both physical and mental wellbeing. It is proven to reduce stress hormone production\, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity\, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure\, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness. \nIn 1982\, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture\, Forestry\, and Fisheries created the term shinrin-yoku\, which translates to “forest bathing” or “absorbing the forest atmosphere.” The practice encourages people to simply spend time in nature — no actual bathing required \nThe benefits of immersing ourselves in nature is many-fold. Research conducted around the world has shown a range of physical benefits\, including: \n\nReduced blood pressure\nReduced pulse rates\nReduced blood sugar\nReduced stress hormones levels\nIncreased white blood cells that fights off infections and cancer\nStrengthened immune systems\nEnhanced mood\n\nWe will also do metta practice.  Metta is loving kindness\, and the practice of sending metta to ourselves and all sentient beings is foundational to our practice.   \nSuggested donation $50.00. No one will be refused participation due to funds. \n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nNot a local? Book lodging at 509.395.2030 / business@tlabbey.com \nThere are various options available\, depending on the event.  1. Trout Lake Abbey B&B private or hostel style rooms.  2. Meditations huts.  3. Futons either in the temple or the Mountain View Room.  4. Camping \nPlease call in advance to inquire about availability.

SUMMARY:ONE DAY RETREAT – Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) and Metta practices
SUMMARY:Samhain 2023
DESCRIPTION:We will celebrate Samhain (pronounced SOW-en)\, the Feast of our Sacred Dead\, at the White Mountain Druid Sanctuary at Trout Lake Abbey. This will be an Irish Celebration of the Goddess Morrigan and the Gods An Dagda and Donn. \nSamhain is called the Hinge of the Year and may have been the ancient Irish New Year. At this liminal time\, the ‘veils’ between the Worlds are thinner than usual\, and Spirits are more easily contacted. We hold our rites around sunset\, which is a liminal time of day\, making our connections even stronger. \nWe will hold this rite outdoors in the Stone Circle. Be prepared to honor any of your Sacred Dead who have passed on since Samhain last year. We will be honoring the Goddess Morrigan\, She of War\, Death\, and Destruction; the God An Dagda\, the ‘Good God’ and He of Great Appetite\, and Generosity; and the God Donn\, King of the Dead. \nAppropriate offerings for our Ancestors include pork or other food\, beer\, or items of sentimental value\, etc. Offerings for the Morrigan include red wine\, chocolate\, whiskey\, etc. Offerings for the Dagda include porridge\, whiskey\, beer\, pork\, etc. Offerings for Donn may be foods\, whiskey\, or beer\, but His offerings should not be shared with anyone\, including yourself. As always\, praise offerings of song\, poetry\,  dance\, etc. are always welcome. \nThere will be a potluck following the ritual\, held in the main house. \nPlease contact the office to inquire about lodging options: 509.395.2030/business@tlabbey.com
